Real Love
“Are you jealous of the ocean’s generosity?
Why would you refuse to give this joy to anyone?
Fish do not hold the sacred liquid in their cups,
They swim the huge fluid “freedom”. “
The above poem by Rumi, a sunni Mystic from the 13th century,
born in Persia, is all about Real Love. The Real Changeless Love.
His poems are still strongly influential today. They are not
read by only Sunni Islamist but by the entire world. Frequently
you can hear his words in the yoga studios when teachers open
the class with readings that encourage the yogi to rise above the
body. Yoga stuedents are encouraged to move into the limitless,
Yoga students are encouraged to meet the interior Self. Yoga
students are encouraged to find the core of Love within
where it is met in each and every being.
What is the changeless Love? How can we access it? Why would we
want to? Though I could relate my own experiences, rather I would suggest
you collect your own experiences of finding Real
Love, free from anxiety and fear of loss.
The first requirement though is suspension of disbelief.
You need to let go, even if temporarily, of the idea of getting and loosing.
There does not have to be situation where someone looses and another
wins. We can accept the idea that all can win.
Just as the fish above are not fooled into thinking that they
need to posses the ocean, to make it ‘mine’, so we need to
let go of the idea of ‘mine’ and ‘separation’ and ‘lack’.
In those aforementioned words we let go of loosing.
Where there is no loss there is no gain. Competition
breaks down and the ‘separate’ concept works in tandem.
Stop feeling anxious from subliminal fears that create
a world of separation. Begin the share the ‘freedom’ first
by experiencing it.
Simple but not easy since one is working with years of
conditioning that ‘my’ is what is important, we are separate
from each other and having and taking are the same. But if
someone looses while another wins then the object had will
not last and in the end, all loose.
So try this experiment for 3 weeks.
First each day upon rising ask yourself “ How will I be
delighted and surprised today with a lasting gift?”
That is all. Say it slowly and sincerely. Maybe the investment time
is one minute? Or maybe only 30 seconds; could you be willing
to change your whole life for only 30 seconds?
Next be sure to listen sometime during the day and once in the evening.
Listen means put down the technology. Go to a quiet place. Stop all doing,
again, even if for 30 seconds. Perhaps you may even be given this opportunity
where everything stops. When noticed, you stop, too.
So this is the beginning. Next week YbD will post the feature article on
what you may want to add during the next few weeks, to enrich your life.
F0R NOW: First thing, each day upon rising ask yourself “ How will I be
delighted and surprised today with a lasting gift?”
