Gentle Classical Yoga, with Heidi, is
practiced to ease the body of strain
Heidi Maddock opens her session
with a brief message. Using mostly
traditional Hatha Yoga poses Heidi ‘guides’
her students thru the Classical yoga practice.
Classical yoga is based on Hatha Yoga.
Hatha yoga emphasizes the natural body alignment.
It focuses on the deep constant flowing breath.
It asks one to practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness is the gentle effort to be
continuously present. Be present on the mat
and only focus on the experience in the yoga class.
The session also works thru the asanas (postures).
Heidi reminds students to work at their own pace.
She encourages students to know and respect their bodies.
She asks students to not push into pain. She asks that you
ease back at discomfort. Heidi encourages students
toward mindfulness. She does this by asking
“how do you feel in ‘this very moment’” .
The class is completed with a traditional savasana.
In final savasana or corpse pose, a student
symbolically “dies” to old ways of thinking
and doing. The normally perceived boundaries
of body image dissolve. The student may enter a state
of blissful neutrality continuing into brief meditation.
Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical
exercises (known as asanas or postures). These asanas
are placed in sequences. The sequences are designed
to bring you to
a natural true alignment. The postures are
also designed to open the many energy channels of the body.
These channels especially include the main channel, the spine.
Here energy can flow freely.
The goal of this class is to bring self-transcendence
through physical, mental and spiritual health.
There are several branches of yoga.
Hatha yoga is the path which has physical
health and balance as a primary goal.
The practitioners of Classical (Hatha form)
believe that greater mental and spiritual
awareness can be brought about with
a healthy and pure body.
