that. Be mindfully aware in an environment where you and
your child interact with the facilitator. You and your baby
are in the same class room. Learn with each other.
You practice and learn in real life situations.
Always keep in mind that being the lovable mother
is your goal and attain it.
Mindful Momhood Winter 2017 helps you be the best Mama you can be.
Love yourself while you love your baby.
Keep in mind, no matter what is going on that the foremost
important thing is to be the best person you can be in this
moment. You cannot change the situation but you can change
the way you relate to the situation.
Learn skills that keep you present with your baby , whether
the baby is on the way or you are holding the ‘sweet poopy bundle’ in your arms.
Remember that to fill your tanks keeps your baby’s care at its best.
When you are filling your tanks you are at your best.
Learn how to handle your problems better and to accept
what is happening without adding negative emotion.
Here is what one mother had to say about the course:
As a first time mom of an 8 month old, I can’t even speculate how
many times I’ve been advised “Enjoy this time- it goes by so fast”
by another mom with a wistful smile. With my husband deployed
overseas, I found the advice worthwhile but certainly ironic- here
I am exhausted, overwhelmed and scatterbrained and you want
me to just cherish this moment? “How?” I silently asked myself,
when I have laundry in piles, spit-up on the maternity leggings I
am still wearing and absolutely nothing in the house to eat? How?
I found myself relishing moments and milestones, though, despite
my exhaustion and frustration…breathing in that sweet baby smell
and crying joyful, hormonal tears when Tucker would smile or coo.
Those moments make it all worth it. Being present in each moment,
remaining mindful through my infant’s development….that is what
I really needed to do in order to “enjoy this time, it goes by so fast”.
Mindfulness and presence was the “how” I had asked myself when
posed with the well-meaning advice “enjoy this time…it goes by so
fast.” But how could I do it consistently?
The Mindful motherhood series at Yoga by Donation in Portsmouth
has been the single most valuable thing I have done for myself
since the birth of my son. It is the “how” a new mom needs to
truly enjoy the change motherhood presents. I signed up
expecting a little yoga with my drooling, poopy companion
and am now finishing the course with a new sense of both
motherhood and self. It takes three weeks or more to develop
a habit. Mindfulness and meditation, things I had dabbled
with before but never truly committed to, are no exception.
The course gives you specific tools to develop a mindfulness
and meditation practice that works for your new, chaotic life.
Yes, there is some yoga, and it’s fabulous. What you can truly
take away, though, is a profound change in yourself- one that
teaches you how to weave motherhood into the fabric of the
life you have been wearing since prior to the baby.
The course brings you back to yourself, which we sometimes lose sight
of when becoming new moms.
Enjoy this time…it goes by so fast” How? By being in the
moment, not by being five places at once, flailing and
unaware of anxieties, fears, angers and frustrations that
our mind does not need to create. Learn how.
